IDOT, Law Enforcement Urge Fans to Safely Celebrate
Super Bowl Sunday
Remind Motorists to Have a Sober Driver or Risk Arrest
Across the country, millions of people will gather this weekend
to watch the Super Bowl, America’s most popular sports event. To
prevent fans from driving impaired, the Illinois Department of
Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois State Police (ISP) today kicked
off the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket
campaigns for the weekend.
“Traffic volume significantly increases around national events like
the Super Bowl, and unfortunately, so does the likelihood of
motorists opting to consume alcohol and subsequently drive home,”
said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider.

Governor Pat Quinn today announced $21.7 million in Illinois Safe Routes to School grants to schools and communities across the state. The federally-funded program is designed to enable and encourage children to walk and bike to school safely.

IDOT Schedules Public Hearing for Improvement of US 51, IL 29
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will hold an open house public hearing for the following two projects on protected corridors: proposed upgrade of IL 29, from a two-lane to a four-lane facility, spanning from 0.8 miles south of Berry to 1.2 miles south of Edinburg; and for the proposed upgrade of US 51, from a two-lane to four-lane expressway, ranging from 1.4 miles south of Assumption to just south of Shelby County Line.

Alcohol-Related Motor Vehicle Fatalities
On the Decline in IllinoisThe Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) today released
crash data showing a continual reduction in the number of
alcohol-impaired motor vehicle fatalities in Illinois from 2006
through 2010. The measure of alcohol impairment involves at least
one driver with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher, or
beyond the legal blood-alcohol limit in Illinois. IDOT and law
enforcement agencies statewide are partnering this holiday season to
boost safety and continue the fight against impaired driving.
